1. Strengths & Weaknesses of the use of Law to Protect Worker Mental Health, Katherine Lippel, University of Ottawa
Katherine Lippel, is Professor of Law and Distinguished Research Chair at the University of Ottawa. She held the Canada Research Chair in Occupational Health and Safety Law there from 2006 to 2020. Her research program explores the relationship between the law (including legislation, regulations, directives, case law, policy and industry standards), and occupational health and safety, particularly re: the effects of legal frameworks on the prevention and compensation of work related injury, with a view to defining policy changes that can reduce injury and provide just compensation. She has won several research awards , is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and the author of numerous articles and books in the field.
2. Workplace Bullying & Mental Health, Dr. Karen Harlos, University of Winnipeg
Dr. Harlos is Professor and past Chair, Department of Business and Administration, at the University of Winnipeg. Her field is organizational behaviour and she conducts research on workplace mistreatment and bullying, employee silence and voice in the face of work mistreatment, healthcare workplace issues, and quality of worklife. Her work has been published in many high-quality journals and she recently completed her role as Director of a 4 year multi-institution SSHRC research project examining workplace bullying and mistreatment using international and integrative perspectives for prevention (www.uwinnipeg.ca/wbmp). Her presentation is drawn from that work.
